How a Book Works#

Everything revolves around the book item. Each copy carries a book id in its metadata (bookUid), and that id points to one saved book — its cover, its pages, its pictures. The item is the book: wherever the item goes, the book goes with it.

The item	What happens when it is used
Blank — no book id yet	A fresh id is written into the item and the writer opens on an empty book.
Written	A menu titled Book offers Open — read it — and Edit — open the writer with everything already in it.

Field	Notes
Book Title	Required. Printed on the cover and saved into the item.
Author	Required. Printed under the title.
Cover Image URL	Optional. The picture that fills the cover. Without one, the cover is dark leather with gilded corners.
Description	Optional. A short blurb printed on the cover below the author.

Field	How it reads
Page Title	Optional. A serif heading at the top of the page.
Subtitle	Optional. Italic, under the heading, followed by an ornamental rule.
Content	Required. Plain text — every line break starts a new indented paragraph.
Image URL	Optional. A picture placed above the text, with a light sepia tone.

Action	What happens
Save	Checks the required fields first — a missing one is highlighted and Please fill in all required fields appears. Otherwise the book is saved, the window closes and Book saved successfully confirms it.
Delete	Only when editing a written book. Asks for confirmation, then removes the book from the database.
`Esc` or closing the window	Closes without saving. Whatever was typed since the last save is lost.
